Obituary

Xuewei “Sue” Chen

November 20, 1965 – August 9, 2026

Xuewei “Sue” Chen, beloved mother, accomplished engineer, and a woman of remarkable strength and optimism, passed away on August 9, 2026, in Novi, Michigan, at the age of 60. She was born on November 20, 1965, in Shanghai, China.

Xuewei was a poised, strong-willed, hardworking, and beautiful woman whose determination and positive spirit touched the lives of those around her. She lived her life with purpose, curiosity, and an appreciation for the things that brought her joy. Among her favorite activities were traveling, singing, dancing, and shopping—pursuits that reflected her vibrant personality and love of experiencing life.

Xuewei was also a dedicated and accomplished engineer. She earned a Master of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Windsor and went on to contribute her expertise to innovative engineering solutions. Among her professional accomplishments were two United States patents: Variable Valve Universal Bracket Design and Control Valve for a Device for Variably Adjusting the Control Times of Gas Exchange Valves of an Internal Combustion Engine. These achievements were a testament to her intelligence, creativity, perseverance, and commitment to her work.

But above all of her professional accomplishments, Xuewei was most proud of her children, Alan Shao and Sophie Shao. She took immense pride in watching them grow into the accomplished adults they are today. Her love for them was at the heart of her life, and the values she instilled in them will continue to live on through them.

Xuewei faced life with extraordinary courage. She fought with everything she had, right up until the end. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering determination will remain an enduring part of the legacy she leaves behind.

Xuewei will be deeply missed by her children, Alan and Sophie, as well as by all those fortunate enough to have known and loved her. Though her life has come to an end, her memory will continue through the people she inspired, the accomplishments she achieved, and, most importantly, the family she loved so deeply.
