Payne, Thomas Gordon, age 88 of Northville, Mich., passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2022. Beloved husband of Geraldine (nee Collins) for 63 years. Proud father of Thomas (deceased 2004), Dennis (Patti Stocker), Patty (Scott) Worden, James (Jody), and John (Rebecca). Loving, doting Grandpa to Tom, Kathleen, Madeline and Morgan, and fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Detroit on March 21, 1934, Tom was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (O'Neill) and brother to his dear sister Beverly (Vern) Glendening. Tom graduated from St. Mary's of Redford High School in 1952, went to Germany with the U.S. Army, and upon his return started working downtown in the management training program at the J.L. Hudson Co while also studying at the University of Detroit. He enjoyed a tremendous retail career as a proud Hudsonian and retired in 1986 as the president and CEO of Dayton-Hudson department stores. In retirement Tom presided over the Payne Pool Club, where a large group of family and friends have gathered for years as he and Gerry perfected their roles as welcoming and generous hosts. Visitation at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Novi, Wednesday November 2, 2022 from 3-8pm. In state at Our Lady of Victory, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville, Thursday November 3, 2022 at 10:30am until the funeral liturgy at 11am. Interment Rural Hill Cemetery.
