Obituary

Susan Seelye
February 24, 1943 – October 3, 2024

Susan Seelye, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, teacher, and friend to many. Her love for people, especially children, shaped a lifelong career as an educator, where she dedicated herself to nurturing both young minds and the world around her.

A passionate gardener of plants and people alike, Susan's caring nature helped everything and everyone around her to grow. She was adventurous, playful, fierce, and always full of life. Her boundless energy and love for others rippled out to create a lasting impact that will be felt for generations.

Her strong network of friends and deep commitment to her community were a testament to her giving spirit. Susan was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she lived out her spiritual values, but her professional life was devoted to education. She earned numerous awards over her career, but one of her proudest accomplishments was obtaining an ecological grant that allowed her and her students to help restore a local creek, teaching them the importance of environmental stewardship.

Family was Susan's greatest joy. She loved celebrating milestones and creating special memories, including taking each of her grandchildren on a unique trip when they turned nine. Her passion for adventure led her to explore places like the Grand Canyon and Lake Michigan, as well as digging for geodes and collecting rocks from her travels.

Creative and crafty, Susan also enjoyed painting and sharing her artistic talents. Her love for life, learning, and the environment made her a remarkable person who touched countless lives with her wisdom, compassion, and humor.

An open house Celebration of Susan's Life will be hosted by the family on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Genitti's, located at 108 E. Main St, Northville MI 48167. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Detroit Mercy Education Project in her memory.
