Alexander , Stephen - husband, father, grandfather, coach, and US Marine - died on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Detroit, MI due to complications following lung surgery. He was 67.
Stephen was born in Detroit, MI on July 8th, 1950, and married to the love of his life, Nancy Alexander-Mazza. He is survived by his sons, Chris Alexander (Goriana), Anthony Alexander (Jennifer) Jacob Alexander, daughter Jaime Bruno, his grandchildren Hayden and Vivienne Alexander. Dear brother of Danny Alexander (Mariea) and late David. .Also survived by nieces, Mik Freeman, Danette Alexander-Pitoau, Lisa Alexander-Mizner, Kelli Alexander, and nephew David Alexander.
Stephen once described his best accomplishment as becoming a father. Always one of the biggest personalities in the room, the two things Steve never lacked were affection and a good punch line. His sons, Christopher, Anthony, and Jacob, both remember their father as the one that made contact daily just to say, "I love my boys," and who encouraged them to always follow their dreams.
A long-time football coach in the community, Stephen developed his passion for coaching with his oldest son, Chris, as a member of the Farmington Rockets, West Bloomfield High School, and Olivet College football teams. His passion for coaching extended to his middle son Anthony at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, while leaving behind little league team co-founding the Lakeland Broncos. To everyone that he coached, he leaves you with a message that he always preached – It's not how you fall in life, it's the lessons you learn while standing back up that will define you.
Stephen will be remembered for his wit and his generosity, as well as ability to positively affect the lives of everyone he touched. He had a passion for golf, Elvis Presley, and his dogs Max and Giovanni.
