Shirley Ann (nee Sexton) a long time resident of Detroit, Michigan passed away peacefully on September 10, 2014 in Lakeway, Texas. Beloved wife of Warren E. Matthews and loving mother to Suzanne, Dr. Michael (Patricia) and Phyllis Matthews. Shirley was born to Russell and Hilda Sexton on September 10, 1924. She lost her father in 1926 and then tragically lost her mother in 1934. She was lovingly cared for and raised by her uncle Joe and Eva Haener. Her greatest wish was to have a family of her own. She was an adoring and giving grandmother to her grandchildren Courtney Warren (Kole), Brandon Matthews, Weston Matthews, Abigail Huff (Adam), Benjamin Buerman and Shelby Medina. She treasured her great-grandsons Ti Warren and Sullivan Huff. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Warren, brothers-in-law David Matthews and Harold Hill, sister-in-laws Mary Catherine Hill and Patricia Burton and her best friend Duke. She is survived by her sister -in- law Harriet Matthews and brother-in-law Richard Burton, many loving nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the staff at the Summit who provided her with exceptional care in the last few months of her life. They also want to thank Gloria Mena and her family for being a loving and tender caregiver in the last few years of mom's life while she resided with her son Michael and wife Patricia in Lakeway, Texas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14th at O'Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Novi, from 2-8 pm. Visitation Monday September 15th at 11:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington, Michigan. Interment will be at Grand Lawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband of 49 years Warren.
