Sean Gilmore, 84, of Wixom, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, surrounded by his family. A devoted family man with a strong work ethic and a warm sense of humor. Sean enjoyed hunting, fishing, being Mr. Fix It and watching the Red Wings, but nothing meant more to him than the people he loved most, his family.
Born in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, to parents Gerald and Isabel Gilmore. He came to the U.S. as a teenager with his family.
Sean is survived by his wife, Christine Gilmore, his beloved partner for 63 years. Together, they raised four children and built a close-knit family that remained at the heart of Sean’s life. Sean is also survived by his four children: Maureen (Dominic) Asta; Kathleen (Christopher) Jahnke; Michael (Jennifer) Gilmore; and Kevin (Sarah Moulik) Gilmore. Sean was a proud Papa to 11 grandchildren: Madeline (Adam) Walt, Olivia Asta, KellyJahnke, Albert (Allia) Asta, Benjamin Jahnke, Abigail Gilmore, Ryan Gilmore, Isabelle Gilmore, Kennedy Gilmore, Cameron Gilmore and Cullen Gilmore. His legacy continues to live on through his great-grandchild, Sean Walt, who shares his name and a special bond that will carry on for generations to come. He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Isabel, and his sisters, Mairead and Maire.
As the owner/operator of Scotty Simpsons Fish & Chips for 35 years, Sean treated every employee and customer as if they were family, creating a place where people felt truly welcomed and at home. He cherished his time spent up north, but his favorite time was during family gatherings, which held a very special place in his heart. He always made sure there was room for everyone, often re-arranging the house so that multiple tables could be arranged together so the entire family could sit as one. His kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22nd at O’Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI, from 2:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 23rd at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 W 10 Mile Road, Novi, MI, with a brief visitation beginning at 9:30am and Mass beginning at 10:00am. Immediately following Mass, all are welcome to gather for a luncheon celebrating Sean’s life at Drafting Table Brewing Company, 49438 Pontiac Trail, Wixom, MI.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and medical staff at All in All Care of Michigan for their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
Sean will be deeply missed by Christine, his family, and his many friends. They will remember his humor, his generous heart, and the way he always made room for everyone at the table.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Capuchin's of Detroit.
