Ruth L Bell, June 3, 2021 Age 92 of Wayne and Arcadia, Michigan
was a gifted musician and educator. She and
her husband of 66 years, George, were
sweethearts in the Detroit Cooley High School
band, where George played clarinet and Ruth
played flute. They married after George served
in the occupation forces in Japan. George and
Ruth settled in Wayne, Michigan where George
became the band and orchestra director at
Wayne Memorial High School, and later Principal
there. Ruth taught flute lessons upstairs and
George taught every instrument except flute in
the basement of their home, where they
raised four children.
Later, Ruth taught pre-school in the Sparky
program in Wayne and finished her career
there as an administrator of the program.
George and Ruth retired to Arcadia, Michigan
and become very involved with that community,
where they served it via the Lions Club and
the Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruth played solo
flute in the church almost every Sunday for
many years.
George and Ruth had a deep love of nature
and traveled the world to ski and fish.
Not only did George and Ruth make beautiful
harmony as musicians, parents, and grandparents,
but they created magnificent art together.
George hand carved birds, ducks, and fish
and Ruth painted them. Many of their pieces
are on display in the Arcadia Museum.
Ruth was preceded in death by George and
daughter Patricia. She is survived by
children Steve (Luda), Kathy (Marty), and
Robert (Gail) and by four grandchildren.
