Ruby Jane
Krieg
January 10, 1926 – April 17, 2026
Ruby J. Krieg, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, friend and amazing woman, went to be with
Jesus on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 100 years, three months and two days young. She was born and raised
in Michigan City, Indiana.
Ruby contracted Polio at the age of 19, yet persevered to completed her Bachelors Degree in Education
only two years later from Ball State Teachers College (now Ball State University). While still in college she
met Thomas Krieg through a friend, and they married May 1, 1948. For the next five years she taught High
School Algebra, Business and English in Indiana and then in Michigan after moving there with Tom. There
they built a home in East Lansing and when their first daughter was born, Ruby set aside the classroom to
raise her family. Within seven years she was blessed with four daughters, for whom she was active in
PTA, as a Girl Scout leader and a baker of after-school treats for her daughters and their friends. With her
family, Ruby also enjoyed motor boating, water skiing, swimming, sailing, snow skiing and trail riding on
motorcycles.
When Tom, an Engineer at Oldsmobile, retired in 1980, they were o to retire in Prescott, Arizona where
they continued enjoying their outdoor sports activities. Ruby also had the heart of a volunteer, and for 34
years she prepared Income Tax returns through the AAPR program in Prescott, until the age of 91.
In 2021, as a widow of 17 years, she left her large “family” of long-time friends and came back to
Michigan to be closer to her daughters, but Arizona was always her happy place. She moved into Rose
Senior Living in Novi and met some of the loveliest people that became another group of dear friends.
She often remarked how blessed she was to share her life with so many friends and family.
She was pre-deceased by her loving, soul-mate husband of 56 years, Thomas James Krieg. Ruby is
survived by her four daughters, Connie L. Proctor, Terri J. Douglas (John), Cindy L. Krieg and Janice L. Rush
(Rich). She was also blessed to have ten grandchildren and nine great-grand children.
