Roy P. Halmhuber
October 2, 1926 – June 5, 2023
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy.
Loving father of Nancy (the late Gary), Susan (Dave), Janet (Bill) and Gordy.
Treasured grandfather of Karin, Scott, Jill, Bob, Cathy, Jimmy, and Katie. Step grandchildren Jeff and Steve. Great Grandpa of 11.
Roy served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and most notably participated in the surrender of the Island of Yap by the Japanese which signaled the end of the war in the Pacific. He was very active and loved baseball and was a member of the "Hot Stove League" roundtable. Roy played for his church softball teams and coached little league. Besides his love of baseball, he loved to be outdoors fishing, hunting, boating or golfing. He made two hole in ones in his life, the "first one is luck... the second is skill!". Roy had a cottage on Glen Lake where he could enjoy his outdoor activities, even water skiing into his 70's!
He was very active and social. Roy was still in contact with his college friends and had been involved with Birmingham Senior Men's Club. He was an active member throughout his life at Westlawn Methodist, Strathmore Methodist, (both in Detroit) and First United Methodist Church in Birmingham.
A memorial visitation for Roy will be held at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave. Novi, MI 48375 on June 19, 2023 beginning at 11am until the memorial service at 1pm.
Everyone Roy met became a friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
