Obituary

Ronald Michael Valente, Sr.
June 19, 1945 – December 8, 2024

Ronald Michael Valente Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and man of faith, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the age of 79.

Born on June 19, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Anthony and Helen Valente, Ron was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, where he attended Dearborn Heights Haston High School and excelled in both baseball and basketball.

In 1972, Ron married the love of his life, Beverly, beginning a more than 52-year journey filled with devotion, affection, laughter, and unwavering companionship. They shared a love so deep that they left nothing unsaid, living every day with the understanding that our time on this earth is fleeting. Their marriage was rooted in mutual respect and a profound appreciation for each other, and in their retirement years, they were truly inseparable.

Ron was a man of seemingly boundless energy, humility, and a tireless work ethic. He loved staying busy and finding purpose in every task. A successful business owner for over 48 years, Ron cherished the time spent working and sharing camaraderie with his close friend and business partner, Bill. After semi-retiring, he embarked on a second career with the City of Novi, where he worked until his retirement in 2012. Of course, retirement didn't stop Ron—he continued working until his final days. Ron's life was never defined by work. His faith, family, friends, and the joy of helping others were the true cornerstones of his life.

Ron's deep and abiding faith in God was his guiding light. A curious and devoted student of scripture, he filled numerous Bibles with handwritten notes and reflections over nearly five decades. These treasured writings reflect a lifetime of spiritual growth, study, and deep connection to his faith.

Humble and kind, Ron had a gift for making everyone he encountered feel at ease. He used his humor—clever jokes, "dad" jokes, and well-timed stories—to brighten lives and bring smiles. His genuine interest in people, expressed through thoughtful questions and attentive listening, made everyone he encountered feel valued, and cared for.

In his version of retirement, he pursued many interests, Ron embraced every endeavor with enthusiasm and focus. He proudly served as the general contractor for building his family's home in Novi. Later in life, he discovered a passion for drawing and painting, exploring his creative side alongside his high school friend, Larry. A natural athlete, Ron also took up golf—not only for the love of the game, but as a way to share meaningful time with his sons, creating cherished memories on the course.

Ron had a passion for mentoring and spent nearly 20 years coaching girls' basketball. Whether coaching CYO teams, travel leagues, or assisting at Novi High School, he invested his heart and time in shaping the lives of countless young athletes. To those he coached, he was far more than a coach—he was a role model and steadfast source of encouragement.

In retirement, Ron found immeasurable joy as "Papa." His granddaughter, Abigail, was the light of his life, and their special bond was filled with laughter, silly jokes, and unconditional love. He adored all his grandchildren, Taylor, Nick, and Hunter, finding joy in their unique personalities and milestones. Ron also cherished traveling with Beverly, particularly their winters spent with friends and family in Ft. Myers Beach and Lido Key, where they created countless memories together.

Ron's humility, kindness, and thoughtfulness left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Whether being a quiet example to others, offering encouragement at the gym, watching over others' children while their parents worked out, lending a listening ear, or simply sharing a "dad" joke, Ron's life was dedicated to lifting others up. He and Beverly were beloved fixtures at their local gym, inspiring many with their commitment to health, quiet determination and generosity.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; his children, Ronald Jr., Victor, Jason (Elizabeth), and Keri (Joe) Upleger and his beloved grandchildren, Abigail, Taylor, Nick, and Hunter. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Kathy) Valente and his sister, Maureen Wiley. Ron had many cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Helen, and his brothers, Anthony Jr. and Robert.

Per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his extraordinary life will be held on January 10, 2025 from 4-8pm at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home 41555 Grand River, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, his unwavering faith, and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
