Gutzeit, Robert "Bob" G. Sr., age 92, passed away on December 30, 2016. Robert was born on September 7, 1924 to the late Erick and Margaret Gutzeit in Detroit. He met the love of his life, Fern Schultz, during his teenage years at his family's church, Immauel Evangelical, of Detroit. Toward the end of high school Robert pursued work as a tool and die designer for Empire and not long after, enlisted with the Army Air Corp. He spent two and half years serving his country and was stationed throughout Texas. When he returned to Michigan, he married Fern on July 21, 1945 and they remained inseparable for over 71 years.
Robert went on to work for both Erie Engineering and Ford Motor Company, working up to the position of Senior Production Engineer Die Designer Foreman at Ford. In his leisure time, he was an active left handed bowler, crossword puzzle whiz, card game aficionado, and avid Marilyn Monroe fan. Robert and Fern also spent a great deal of time out of town with the Redford Travelers group. Together, they visited Florida and New York. Among his favorite places to travel became Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Beloved husband of Fern; loving father of Barbara (Joseph) Genovese, Patricia Gutzeit, Robert Gutzeit Jr., and Ronald (Margot Bloomfield) Gutzeit; proud grandfather of Saundra Shelton, Wendell (Carrie) Shelton Jr., Christina Welsh, Laura (Sam) Martin, and Christopher Gutzeit; great-grandfather to Brittney Welsh, Kaylea Welsh, Luke Martin, and Abigail Martin.
Visitation at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi (248) 348-1800 on Sunday, January 8, from 1:00-6:00pm. Funeral service 10 am Monday, January 9, 2017 at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home. Interment at Glen Eden Cemetery Memorial Park, Livonia.
