Obituary for Rita Kay French
July 17, 1953 – August 3, 2025
Rita Kay French, age 72, of South Lyon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 17, 1953, in Harrisburg, Illinois, Rita carried her Southern charm and vivacious spirit wherever she went.
Rita was a woman who lit up every room she entered—beautiful, vibrant, funny, and full of sparkle, both in personality and in style. Whether it was her dazzling outfits, her ever-perfect hair and makeup, or her contagious laugh, Rita made an impression on everyone she met. She never met a stranger—only new friends—and she had a gift for lifting others up with her honesty, warmth, and unforgettable sense of humor.
Her faith was at the heart of who she was, and she loved the Lord deeply. Music filled her life—especially the sounds of Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. She loved to dance, cook incredible meals, and surround herself with the people she loved most. Her family was her proudest accomplishment—particularly her two children, who were her entire world.
Rita worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years, dedicating herself to the care and comfort of others with the same fierce love she gave her family. Her heart was as big as her personality, and her words were often filled with her signature wit and sparkle. She was famous for her colorful expressions, including "OH Baby, looking good!", "I love you so!", "I like big hair—it gives me height," and, of course, "You can't beat that at Kroger's."
Rita is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, William French; her beloved children, William French Jr. (Sarah) and Leslie French; and her cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Blake, Cheyenne, and Brianna. She is also survived by her sister Judy Barrett (Donny), niece Marcy Urban (Bill), and many more loving nieces, nephews, and cousins in Illinois who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Geneta Feazel, and her siblings: Randall, Bill, Fred, Dean, and Burtis Feazel, and sister Sue Feazel.
Rita Kay French was a genuine soul—honest, sincere, colorful, and caring. She was a fantastic cook, a true Southern lady, a joyful dancer, and a beautiful spirit who brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew her. She loved bling, bright colors, and big hair—and the world was brighter because she was in it.
She will be deeply missed, but the love and sparkle she shared will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
