Richard "Rick" J. Wilkins, age 73, passed on Friday, October 16, 2020 in Traverse City, Michigan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie York Anderson. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Mary, and stepson, Ryan Anderson. Loving father of Bobby (Joy) Wilkins, Brad (Veronica) Wilkins, Brian (Cordilia Navarro) Wilkins, and stepfather of Eric (Lyndsay Arbuckle) Anderson. Three siblings David (Alyson) Wilkins, Linda (Dale) Freel, Mark (Linda) Wilkins. Dear grandfather of Brittany, Kaitlyn, Hayden, Braden, Madison, and great grandfather of Adam and Bobbi. . He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wilkins was a graduate of St. Gabriel High School Detroit in 1965, studied Criminal Justice at University of Detroit Mercy, served his country in Vietnam as a United States Army Military Police officer (1966-1968), and came home to join the Detroit Police Department (1969 – 1996). He then went on to a second career as a Massage Therapist (1996 – 2014). He was very proud to achieve his 4th Degree Black Belt (Master) in Tae Kwan Do. Rick was a member of the VFW and enjoyed spending time with many friends of the Detroit Police Choirboys, and other veterans at Reining Liberty Ranch. He loved being outdoors on the golf course, enjoyed watching movies, and spending his retirement at the family cottage on Lake Leelanau with a good book. Visitation at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, 248-348-1800 on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 26, 2020 @ 12:00 PM followed by military honors.
