Obituary

Richard (Dick) Lee Moote, a beloved husband, father, and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at home in Novi, Michigan. He was 87 years old.

Born on February 9, 1936, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Agnes (Larabel) and Ralph Moote, Dick was the fifth of six children. His family later settled in Detroit, where he pursued his education at All Saints Catholic School before graduating from St. Mary's of Redford High School in 1953.

Dick's spirit of service led him to join the Navy in 1955, where he served as an airman with honor until his honorable discharge in 1957. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and dedication.

Throughout his life, Dick exemplified unwavering love, strength, and dedication to his family. He shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth (Craib), and found immense joy in fatherhood, being a guiding light to his four sons: Ric (Cheryl), Dan, Paul, and Marc (Gretchen). His legacy extends through nine adoring grandchildren: Jennifer Schaeffer (Kyle), Kelley Moote, Madison Reuter (Josh), Hannah Shook (Jake), Gabi Moote, Steven Moote, Grace Moote, Gabe Moote, and Alex Andreuzzi. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Agnes and Ralph, his brother Ralph Moote, and sister Delores Aseltyne. He is also survived by his cherished sisters Donna Schwallier, Virginia (Marcel) Lemay, and Jean (Steve) Lizak.

Dick was an active member of Holy Family Church for 45 years, finding solace and community through his faith. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ford Mercury Car Club, where his passion for automobiles flourished. His infectious smile and laugh endeared him to everyone he met.

In his professional life, Dick witnessed the incredible evolution of technology. He worked at American Motors in the computer room during an era when computers required an entire room and marveled at the rapid changes in the tech world. He retired from Bendix in 1993 after many years of dedicated service.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for his remarkable life, his profound love for his family, and his enduring legacy of honor, service, and contagious joy.
