Richard James Kowalczyk of Novi, Michigan, born May 12, 1954, passed away at the age of 69 on September 9 2023. He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan with siblings Robert Kowalczyk, Barbara Wood, and Thomas Kowalczyk. Rich earned mechanical engineering and industrial design degrees from Michigan State University, and later an MBA from University of Detroit Mercy. While at Michigan State he met Margie and they married and moved to Novi to raise their family.


Rich worked in the automotive industry, and was proud of the work he did on the Corvette and EV1, among many other cars. In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing, watching Spartan sports, taking bike rides, skiing, and the occasional stout beer. Rich was a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather.


Rich was predeceased by his parents Jane and Richard Kowalczyk. He is survived by his wife Margaret Kowalczyk, sons Richard (Adrienne Malley) Kowalczyk and Nicholas (Kelli) Kowalczyk, and grandsons Graham (Teddy) and Weston.


A private family ceremony will be held to honor Rich. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Carl Rinne Lewy Body Dementia Support, Education and Awareness Fund at the University of Michigan.
