Obituary

Petrina "Pat" Lemire (Lumia) left us and ascended to her Heaven on April 3, 2013.
Petrina was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 21, 1925. She married Edward Lemire in 1948.
She most recently lived in Novi, Michigan after living for many years in Allen Park, Michigan.
Petrina spent the last six months of her life battling dementia and physical challenges, and received excellent care at Evergreen Health & Living Center at 13 Mile and Evergreen, Beaumont Hospital and especially by Hospice staff and the support from her family and friends. An earlier medical challenge was treated successfully at the University of Michigan Department of Otolaryngology and Petrina  appreciated the excellent care and follow-up received there as well.
Petrina is predeceased by her parents Antonio Lumia (1894-1972) and Benvenuta (Tina) Lumia (Bastone) (1907-2004), her husband for 27 years, Edward Lemire (1919-1975), her sister Mary Margaret (Baldwin) (1939-1996), and numerous aunts and uncles.
Petrina is survived by her children David, Mary Ellen, Jim, Diane and Tom, daughters-in-law Denise Samuels, Cheryl Raleigh and Pom Uasloong, son-in-law Tom McGuire and nine grandchildren: Tony, Rebecca, Molly, Emma, Paul, Annarose, Griffin, Olivia and Carina. She is also survived by her siblings Ann Strzycki and brother-in-law Don, Gasper and sister-in-law Vivian, Tony and sister-in-law Miriam and numerous other relatives.
Petrina lived a full life. She loved music, singing in and touring with several choirs. She was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan and was committed to her Church throughout her life. Fiercely independent, she enjoyed golf, playing bridge and travelling. She graduated from Melvindale High School and worked for the military in California during WWII. While raising five children, at first with Edward and then on her own, she worked part-time but primarily was a stay-at-home mother for her family.
Come and celebrate her life at the visitation which will occur at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Friday 4-8 PM. The funeral service will occur at Church of the Holy Family ( www.holyfamilynovi.org ) at 24505 Meadowbrook Rd. Novi on Saturday, In state 12:30 PM until funeral liturgy at 1 PM. Interment will be at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery at 18303  Allen Rd., Brownstown Twp.
Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to commemorate her life to either the University of Michigan Vogel Fund (for rare cancer of the sinuses and skull base), University of Michigan Health System, Dept. of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Cranial Base Program, 1904 Taubman Center Box 0312, 1500 E.
