Obituary

Paul W. King, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023, at the age of 83, surrounded by the tranquility of his home on Portage Lake in Pinckney, Michigan. Born on March 23, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Everett and Florence King, Paul's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, his service to his country, and his love for diverse passions.

A graduate of Farmington High School, Paul's thirst for knowledge led him to Purdue University, where he pursued his education and became an active member of the Delta Chi fraternity. His leadership shone brightly as he assumed the role of fraternity president during his senior year. It was during these formative years that Paul's path crossed with that of his soulmate, Sandy, whom he lovingly married on July 6th, 1963.

Paul's sense of duty and patriotism led him to serve his country as a Naval Officer from 1963 to 1966, including a courageous assignment during the Vietnam War from October 1965 through July 1966. After his military service, he carved a successful niche in the world of forestry, establishing his own tree and landscape company, Westside Forestry, in Novi, Michigan.

Upon retirement, Paul and Sandy embarked on a new chapter of their lives, settling in Pinckney, Michigan, where they crafted their dream retirement home on the serene shores of Portage Lake. Paul's zest for life extended into a rich tapestry of hobbies, including his cherished collection of antique cars and guns, his passion for golf, his wanderlust for travel, and his winters spent in the warmth of South Padre Island, Texas, and Tucson, Arizona.

Paul's indomitable spirit was most evident in his desire to stay active and engaged, surrounded by the embrace of his cherished family and friends. His infectious smile and warm presence will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandy (Beach) King, and his legacy lives on through his children: son Christopher King (Michele) and daughter Kathryn King Hoffman (Keith). His memory is carried forward by his seven cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Hoffman (Morgan), Alexander King (Melissa), Taylor Hoffman, Clay King, Blake King, Madyson Hoffman, and Blaire King. This year, Paul was blessed with the joy of welcoming two great-grandchildren into his heart: Berkeley Hoffman and Brody King. He is also survived by his brother, Michael King (JoAnn), and his nieces, Kelli King Hayworth (Tim) and Lori King Board (Paul).

The funeral services to honor Paul's life will be held at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Novi, MI 48375, with visitation scheduled for August 15th from 5-8pm and a funeral service on August 16th at 12 noon. The family kindly invites attendees to join them for lunch at 2 pm at Walnut Creek Country Club, 25501 John's Road, South Lyon, Michigan 48178.
