Paul Joseph Franzeca, lovingly known as “PJ,” passed away on October 30, 2026, in New Hudson, Michigan, at the age of 77.
Born on November 29, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, PJ was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a proud graduate of Western High School in Detroit and went on to dedicate 30 years of hard work and service to General Motors before retiring. He was also a proud Vietnam Veteran who honorably served his country, a chapter of his life that will always be remembered with gratitude and respect.
PJ was one of a kind. A true jokester, he had a quick wit and always seemed to have the perfect funny thing to say at just the right moment. Making people laugh was one of his greatest gifts, and he never missed an opportunity to bring a smile to someone's face. Whether he was dressing up and singing “Happy Birthday” while using his toddler children as puppets, or making up hilarious stories with his little puppet characters, PJ had a special way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. His humor, playful spirit, and ability to make people laugh will be deeply missed.
He was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures and had many favorite pastimes. He loved spending time at the casino, trying his luck with lottery tickets and instant scratch-offs, and enjoying the thrill of a possible big win. He was happiest outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden. He especially loved decorating for Halloween and Christmas, bringing the magic and spirit of the holidays to life. And, of course, no spooky season was complete without watching his favorite scary movies!
Some of PJ's proudest moments were found in the love of his family, especially his two grandsons, Anthony and Ian, who brought him tremendous joy. He also treasured the memories made at “Camp Dufus” up north in Grayling, Michigan, a special place filled with family time, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.
PJ will be remembered for his loyalty, stubbornness, loving heart, and unmistakable sense of humor. He was never afraid to speak his mind, always had a joke ready, and loved in his own special way. Those who knew him will forever remember his funny stories, his playful antics, and the laughter he brought into their lives.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Lupe; his sons, Michael and Philip (Kara) Franzeca; his cherished grandsons, Anthony and Ian; his sister, Marge Halkey; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Frank. He will also be missed by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years. PJ was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul and Helen Franzeca.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the memories, laughter, and love he gave us. Life will never be quite as funny without PJ, and there will always be a story, a joke, or a special memory that brings him right back to us. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the country he served, and the countless smiles he left behind.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate PJ's life and pay their respects on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave. Novi, MI 48375. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM.
Visitation continues Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at 10:30 AM until time of the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 S. Lafayette St. South Lyon, MI 48178.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society in PJ's memory.
Rest easy, PJ. May the fishing always be good, the lottery tickets be winners, the casino be lucky, and the scary movies never end. You will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
