Patrick James Rekucki's Obituary

In Loving Memory of Patrick James Rekucki

Patrick James Rekucki of Waterford, MI, was taken home to the Lord on February 12th, 2026, at the age of 76.

Although Pat was born on December 26th, 1949, in Grand Rapids, MI, he resided in Lansing, MI, for much of his young life.

Early on, Patrick showed interest and talent in several sports. While attending Monsignor Gabriels High School in Lansing, he participated in all the sports. He was All-City wrestler in 10th grade. In 1965, his football team made history because they had an undefeated record for the season. They were awarded the Capital Circuit title. Later, in 2004, Pat's 1965 football team was inducted into the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame. Pat also excelled in baseball and in 1968, he was the only Gabriels player chosen to be a member of the All-City team.

After graduating from high school in 1968, Pat attended Central Michigan University to pursue a business degree. Pat was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity. Before graduating in 1972, he also met and dated Lori Cousino, his college sweetheart, and future wife.

Lori and Pat were married in June of 1973, with Lori working as a teacher and Pat working a sales position in the steel industry. Later, they had their children, Bryan in 1979, and Kristin in 1981.

Patrick had many interests that he participated in. His music of choice was Elvis or Motown artists. He belonged to several golf leagues, and enjoyed boating, fishing, and sunbathing at a variety of Michigan lakes. He also loved watching his favorite football team, the University of Michigan.

Pat loved all opportunities to support his treasured children and grandchildren. His four grandkids were the greatest joy of his life. He was lovingly referred to as, "Papa," by them. He always wore that title proudly. Sofia, Isabelle, Colin, and Taylor will cherish every memory they made with their papa.

Our family will forever hold close, our treasured moments with Patrick, anchored around our hearts. Patrick is survived by his two children; Bryan (Ann Marie) Rekucki, and Kristin Brooks, his grandchildren; Sofia Rekucki, Isabelle Rekucki, Colin Brooks, and Taylor Brooks, his sisters; Sharon (Paul) Milam, and Kathi Waters; and Lori Rekucki (ex-wife and friend). Patrick leaves behind two nieces and a nephew; Nicole (Phil Weinstein) Milam, Lindsey (Matthew) Swain, and Alan (Taylor) Waters and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; Walter and Mary Rekucki, and his brother-in-law; Michael Waters.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Patrick on Saturday, May 30th, at the O'Brien Sullivan Funeral home in Novi, MI, from 12pm- 4pm, with the service and sharing of memories beginning at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome contributions to the Alzheimer's Association .
