Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Ann Melton

Patricia "Pat" Melton passed away unexpectedly September 22, 2024. She was 85 years old. She was the widow of James Aaron Melton Jr., to whom she was married 44 years until his passing in 2002.

Pat was born September 4, 1939 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the only child of Alderman Aska and Melanie Aska (Adams). She lived there until the age of five, when she moved to Detroit, Michigan. She had a happy childhood surrounded by extended family. She attended St. Philips Lutheran School and graduated from Commerce High School in Detroit. After graduation, she worked for the J.L. Hudson Company where she met and married James Melton.

Pat became the mother of three children, James A. Melton III, Elizabeth A. Melton, and Kyle A. Melton. She was a loving stay-at-home mother until 1969, when she made the decision to attend the Shapiro School of Nursing of Sinai Hospital of Detroit to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She had a long career in nursing, retiring after 32 years.

Pat loved to travel and traveled extensively. She traveled with friends and her family, and later, with travel groups. She visited numerous countries on every continent except Antarctica. She enjoyed the learning that travel brings as well as meeting people and experiencing different cultures.

In retirement, Pat donated her time to various charitable organizations and participated in outreach programs at her church. She was a devoted Lutheran who read her Bible daily, actively participated in Bible study and lived by the teachings of Micah 6:8:

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God."

Pat Melton was a beloved member of her family, her church family and senior living community. She was kind and thoughtful and always willing to help a friend or neighbor. She will be sorely missed by her children, daughters-in-law, grand & great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. We are comforted that she is resting in the arms of the Lord.
