Patricia (Griffin) Gerbig, 87, of Rochester Hills, formerly of Detroit and Port Huron passed away peacefully on February 24, 2012. Beloved wife of 61 years to the late Frank R. Gerbig, Jr. Her wit, story-telling, love and guidance will be missed by her family including children, Kathryn M. (Michael) Koval, Frank R. Gerbig, III and Corinne G. (David) Victor; her grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Kathleen), Patricia Ann, Karin and Daniel Koval, Cali Lynn Gerbig; David Jr., Timothy and Alexander Victor; great-granddaughter, Kerin Koval. She participated in her first grandchild's wedding, held her first great-grandchild and now is at peace with her husband of 60 plus years.
Pat was a 1945 graduate of Marygrove College; after serving in many volunteer positions, and Chairman of numerous benefit committees, she later became President of the Alumnae Association, 1960-1963. Mrs. Gerbig received the "Mother Domitilla Award" for her activities in local and national charitable groups, in parish and archdiocesan movements. At the same time she served as corresponding secretary to the Christ Child Society (later President in 1967-69). Pat received the Christ Child Society "Woman of the Year" in 1989 award for her leadership and direction in inaugurating new projects and sustaining old ones and foreseeing possibilities to reach out into the community to develop new goals. When her attention was not focused on Marygrove or Christ Child, Pat chaired the 1981 and 82 Torch Drive Tri-County Community Campaign, chaired program advertising for the Metropolitan Opera campaign Detroit Association, chaired various events for the Detroit Council of Catholic Women, served and Chaired numerous Archdiocesan committees, served on the Board at Lourdes Nursing Home for 13 years, President for three years and chairman of the 25th anniversary. Pat also served on the first Archdiocesan Priest's Pension Board and was a member of the design committee for the Priest's Retirement Village. In Port Huron, Pat again devoted herself to volunteer and charitable works organizations throughout the community serving as President of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, as member of the Mission Committee of the Divisional Committee at Mercy Hospital and co-chaired with her husband, the 40th and 50th anniversary celebration of Mercy Hospital. Pat Gerbig was a part of every life that touched her; family, friends and co-workers.
Visitation for Patricia will be Friday, March 2 from 2-9 pm at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home 41555 Grand River Novi 248-348-1800 with a Scripture Service at 7:30 pm. Additional visitation Saturday at 11:00 am at St. John Fisher Parrish, 3665 E Walton Blvd., Auburn Hills where Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:30 am.
