Obituary

Pamela Elizabeth Walunas
July 17, 1945 – June 8, 2025

Pamela Elizabeth Walunas passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of 79. Born on July 17, 1945 in Detroit, Pam was truly one of the friendliest souls anyone could ever meet—loved deeply by all who had the joy of knowing her. Her life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and quiet strength.

Pam was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. She gave freely of herself and always with love—whether it was a thoughtful gift, a perfectly chosen greeting card with just the right message, or a warm phone call to check in. She had a heart as big as her smile, and her joy came from bringing joy to others.

Her deep love extended to animals of all kinds—from dogs to snakes—and she treated them with the same compassion she showed to people. Pam also had a passion for shopping, but always with others in mind. She delighted in showering friends and family with hand-picked gifts, each one a reflection of her attentive heart.

She shared a beautiful life with her husband John, whom she first met in middle school. Just four streets apart growing up, their childhood friendship blossomed into a lifelong romance. They began dating in high school and were married in 1966, nearly reaching 60 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed traveling to favorite destinations like Myrtle Beach, Shipshewana, and Florida—especially relishing beach walks and sunny days.

Pam retired after a 30-year career at the Allstate Regional Office, where she was a valued member of the clerical staff and so much more. Known for organizing group activities and even starting an office aerobics class, Pam brought energy and connection to her workplace. She began her career at just 18 years old.
Following her retirement, Pam selflessly became a caregiver to her beloved mother, Mimi, dedicating over a decade to her care as her health declined. It was a role she embraced with love, patience, and quiet dignity—qualities that defined her life.

Pam was also known for her elegance and grace. She was always perfectly put together—neat, tidy, and a true lady in every sense of the word. She carried herself with poise, never raised her voice, and found comfort in simple joys: gatherings with family and friends, heartfelt conversations, and simply being present for those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mimi. She is survived by her devoted husband John, her cousins Linda (Gary) and David (Judy), her second cousins Erika (Mike) and Megan (Jeremy), third cousins Luke, Lilly, Evan, and Aaron, and many dear friends.
