In Loving Memory of Michaela Ann Burt (Hayes)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Michaela Ann Burt (Hayes), age 84, on August 13, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and a life well-lived. Born on January 10, 1939, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the cherished child of the late Michael C. Hayes and Irene E. Hayes (Morgan). Michaela was the devoted wife of the late Jerry C. Burt, her partner of 56 years.
Michaela's legacy lives on through her three children, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is survived by her daughter Ellen Hulverson and son-in-law Scott Hulverson, along with their children Melissa Thomas (Husband Mark Thomas) and Becky Hulverson. Her son Ken Burt, along with his children Jacqueline, Natalie, and Evan Burt, also cherish her memory. Her son Keith Burt and daughter-in-law Jennifer Burt (Meyer), along with their children Madison and Morgan Burt, continue to hold her in their hearts.
Michaela's journey was marked by dedication and achievement. She attended Laurelton Hall High School in Milford, Connecticut, and graduated from Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York, in 1960. Her passion for knowledge and teaching led her to become a high school math teacher before embarking on a new adventure. She moved to Washington D.C., where she worked as a programmer for IBM Corporation, a journey that would lead her to a fateful encounter with her future husband, Jerry.
In 1962, Michaela and Jerry relocated to Detroit. She transitioned her career to support the burgeoning computer industry and played a vital role in connecting people with opportunities. Her dedication and unwavering work ethic led her to become a respected financial advisor at Shearson American Express in 1982, a role she embraced until her retirement in 2003.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the O'Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, located at 41555 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48375, on Friday from 3 - 8pm. A celebration of Michaela's life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michaela can be made to the Arc of Oakland County, an organization that is important to our family.
