Merlene "Jean" Walters, age 84, passed away on August 19, 2017. Jean was born in Osborne, Kansas on February 20, 1933 to the late Floyd and Merle Jacobe. She was preceded in death by siblings Floyd Jr., Juanita, James, Robert, Charles and Jackie. From the very start, Jean was a strong and independent woman. During her youth in Kansas she was determined to finish her high school education and it was an achievement that brought her great pride.
She met the love of her life, Eugene Ralph Walters, through a circle of mutual friends. The two married and started their family in Kansas. Later, Eugene's military service in the Air Force brought them to Illinois, Florida and then to Michigan. Jean worked off and on over the years from accounting to retail work, but being a mother was Jean's favorite job of all.
She will be remembered for her go-getter approach to life, strong will, and her great love for God. She loved reading the Bible, solving Sodoku puzzles, and had a longtime love of NASCAR racing.
Dear wife to the late Eugene; loving mother of Julie, Dale (Carol), Shawn and the late Nick, proud grandmother of Nicholas, Randy, Matthew, Jessica Robison, and Erik Stanbridge, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
