Maryan Edith Makie, loving Wife, Sister, Aunt and Grand Aunt, age 83 of Novi, Michigan, passed away on November 17, 2024 after an extended illness. Maryan was born on June 17, 1941 to Matthew and Edith, along with brothers Ray and Bill. She graduated from Harper Woods High School and went on to pursue degrees in Education and Executive Housekeeping at Bowling Green State University and Eastern Michigan University.
Maryan taught various subjects in Harper Woods and Livonia middle schools, including her most beloved course of study, physical education. She then went on to become a facilities manager for both Botsford Hospital of Farmington and Cranbrook Educational Community of Bloomfield Hills.
She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and retired in 2005. Being the trooper she always was, she created a fulfilling retirement life filled with travel, adventure and the constant company of family and friends.
She was a funny and fun-loving kind and gentle soul, an artist of paint and watercolor, a fashionista, avid gardener and cook. She loved criminal mysteries, chocolate dipped key lime pie and Reese's peanut butter cups.
She is survived by her loving wife Audrey, beloved brother Bill and beloved sister-in-law Glad, cherished nieces Lee Ann (Jeff), Rae Lynn (Steve), and nephew Lars (Kelly) and dear grandnieces Katarina, Hannah, Pauline and grandnephews Sebastian, John-Michael, Chris, Luke, Larson, Matt, and Eric.

Gathering of family and friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, 248-348-1800 followed by a 11:00 AM celebration of life service. Inurnment will take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland. Memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society .
