Mary Ellen Shaughnessy
August 18, 1934 - July 31, 2022. 87 years old. Beloved wife of 61 years of the late Gerald T. Shaughnessy. Loving mother of Kate Shaughnessy, Meg (Mike) Modes, Eileen (Jeff) Gilbert and Jean (Steve) Shaughnessy Smith. Proud grandmother of Michael, Grace, Jane, Molly, Claire (John Joba), Maggie, Erin and Bridget. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many lifelong wonderful friends.

Mary Ellen was born to M. Leo and Anne (Duffy) O'Connor in Detroit, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her siblings Jack O'Connor, Lee O'Connor and Patricia (John) Perry. She is survived by her sister-in-law Janet O'Connor.

Mary Ellen was a lifelong educator and learner teaching toddlers through senior citizens. She was ever creating, enjoying needlecrafts, fiber arts, crocheting and painting. With her Master's degree in Clothing and Textile, Mary Ellen designed and constructed clothing along with millenary projects. She gained a love of gardening from her father and obtained an Advanced Master Gardener status. Mary Ellen always created a home where all were welcome. She had a lifelong devotion to church and community. Mary Ellen and Jerry loved to travel. Finally, Mary Ellen embraced technology in her quest to always remain connected to her grandchildren.

Most importantly, Mary Ellen had gentle wisdom that many sought.

Instate at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170, on Friday August 5 from 12:00pm until the funeral Liturgy at 12:30pm
