Mary Ellen King, 79, of Highland Lakes in Northville, Michigan, passed away on April 17, 2026. She was born December 29,1946, in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Mary Maczka, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mary Ellen devoted her life to service. She earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Her career spanned Boys Hope, Northville Youth Assistance, and Sanctum House, where she worked until her passing. She also gave generously of her time to the Mercy Education Project, a cause close to her heart.

Away from her work, Mary Ellen loved a good game of euchre or pinochle, travel, and cheering on Detroit basketball. Above all, she was devoted to her grandchildren, Camden and Mia, who were her greatest pride and joy.

She is survived by her son, Jeff King, and her grandchildren, Camden and Mia King. She is also survived by many close friends and relatives whose lives she deeply touched. Few people have had as many close friends, or changed as many lives, as she did.

A celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Highland Lakes Club House. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sanctum House in her honor.
