Marie Theresa Haffey
Date of Death: Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025
Theresa died seven days short of her 99th birthday. She insisted on not having a big birthday party so we celebrate her life instead.
Theresa was devoted to her Catholic faith and a long-time member of Holy Family parish.
Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence G. Haffey, and survived by her five sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Terri, Dennis and Debra, David and (div.) Lin Soria, Bruce and Cynthia and Steve and Marielos, twelve grandchildren, Patrick (Renee Alexiev) Haffey, Morgan (Shaun) Rydzewski, Shannon (Craig) Castelli, Bryn (Markus) Meuller, Carlyn Haffey (A Jay Holmgren), Parker (Taylor) Haffey, Austin Haffey, Pete (Kristin) Haitaian, James (Topaqui) Haitaian, Brendan (Sara) Haffey, Keifer (Eliza) Haffey, Gabriel Haffey, and eleven great grandchildren, Aurora Haffey, Jace Rydzewski, Jordyn Rydzewski, Maren Castelli, Quinn Castelli, Maxwell Meuller, Miles Meuller, Ruth Meuller, Sofia Haitaian, Rowan Haffey and Luca Haitaian.
Also survived by her sister, Catherine LaCharite, and too many nieces and nephews to name.
Theresa was an accomplished needlepoint artist and a long-time member and past-Chair of the Farmington Hills Chapter of the Embroidery Guild. Much of her art was proudly displayed around her home, and many of her quilts, blankets and other work are still treasured belongings of many of her grandchildren.
Theresa loved gardening. On nice days, if she didn't answer her phone inside, she could most likely be found outside tending her flower gardens. Her yard, with its beautiful flowers encircling the house, was admired by neighbors and visitors.
Another favorite pastime was her pinochle group with whom she played regularly through several months ago.
Theresa's greatest love was her family including her extended family. She was one of seven children and her husband, Larry, was one of eight so there were many large family gatherings where she was a cheerful hostess. She was godmother to 14. Her chocolate chip cookies were in constant demand. She loved to sit for her grandchildren and watch them climb the tree in her yard. She took great pride in watching all of them grow into wonderful young adults.
As she said many times in recent weeks, she had a wonderful life.
