Dear grandmother of Rachel(Zack) Leonard, Jimmy(Danielle) Biehl, Chris(Gabi) Vannini and Jeff Vannini. Great-Grandmother of Tilly Leonard. Dear sister of the late Richard Burton. Mariam was born May 31, 1923 in Detroit MI to the late William and Naona(Mowers) Burton. Mrs. Hammond enjoyed being an elementary school teacher in the Detroit Public Schools when she was younger. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Southfield, MI. She enjoyed spending her summers in Grand Bend, Canada where she met her future husband when they were children. She and James also enjoyed winters in Scottsdale, Arizona and Navarre Beach, Florida She loved her grandchildren very much and attended many of their swim meets and hockey games. She loved animals and never passed on a lost animal looking for their missing home. In her later years she enjoyed many trips with her daughters. Memorial service Thursday, September 9, 2021 at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home 41555 Grand River Ave Novi MI. Visitation at 11:00am with a Memorial Service following at 12:00pm.
