Barber, Lynn Howard of Novi May 22, 2017 Age 89, formerly of Bloomfield Hills. Born November 29, 1927 to the late James and Lillian Barber. Beloved husband of Marianne for 65 years. Loving father of Richard (and the late Kim) Barber and David (Veronika) Barber. Grandfather of Laura (Michael) Rose and Trever. Great-grandfather of Emily and Alyssa Rose. Dear brother James Robert (Jeanne) Barber. Mr. Barber was a member of Franklin Community Methodist Church since 1957, and a lifetime member of Birmingham Men's Club. He was affiliated with Engineering Society of Detroit, MI Society of Professional Engineers, MI Association of Professions, American Society of Civil Engineers, Chi Epsilon (National Honorary Civil Engineering Society) and Zeta Psi Fraternity. He was President of Barber-McCalpin Architects and Engineers, Inc. Lynn graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Michigan in 1951. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Michigan and also registered to practice civil and structural Engineering in 35 other states. Mr. Barber was a Veteran in the United States Army, 19th Infantry Army of Occupation in 1946-47, stationed in Japan. Director of the Birmingham Y.M.C.A from 1986-89, Boy Scout Leader 1966-73. Lynn was an avid skier, golfer and sailor. He sailed and skippered the "Flying Cloud" his 38' Catalina in over 25 Mackinac Races and earned the title of "OLD GOAT" from the Bayview Yacht Club. He enjoyed singing and was a member of a Barbershop Chorus and the Church Choir. Funeral service 11 am Friday, May 26, 2017 at Franklin Community Methodist Church 26425 Wellington Franklin, MI 48025 with visitation 10:30 am until time of service.
