Leo Walter Garczynski, 80, of Alva, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, after a long bout with Parkinson's. Leo was born August 1, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, to Walter and Helen Garczynski. He attended Coolidge Elementary School in Detroit, Michigan, then Our Lady Gate of Heaven, and later graduated from St. Theresa High School. He finished his education at Henry Ford Community College with an Associate in Arts Degree.
At the age of eighteen, Leo began his career at The Ford Motor Company, in the Ford River Rouge glass plant in Dearborn. He soon became a tool and dye apprentice, and later moved up to be a design engineer in the metal stamping division. After thirty years at Ford, Leo retired in 1985, and with his wife Carole and their daughter Lori moved to Fort Myers, Florida where he started Sugar Spring Building Contractors.
Leo is survived by Carole, his wife of 56 years; daughter Lori Carvell (Rob) of Alva, FL, and sons Jeff (Kim) and Paul, of Pontiac, Michigan; grandchildren Caleb, Samuel, Seth, Jessie and Rachel Carvell; step-grandchildren Heath & Joy Hazard, Tiffany Hazard, Wade Hazard, and Clayton Hillier; and step-great-grandchildren Jordan and Logan. Surviving also is sister-in-law Patricia Garczynski; nieces and nephews Steve Garczynski, Julie Lewis, Craig Garczynski, and Jenny Blackburn. Leo was preceded in death by Father Walter, Mother Helen and Brother Albert.
The Memorial Service will be held at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home in Novi, Michigan on Saturday, July 15 at 4:00 PM with open visitation 2:00 – 5:30 PM. Interment will follow on Sunday, July 16 at 11:00 AM at Hersey Village Cemetery in Hersey, Michigan.
