Larry German, of Marquette, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, in West Bloomfield, Michigan, at the age of 88. He was born on July 13, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan, to the late Onsen and Mary German.
Larry dedicated much of his life to serving his country with honor and distinction. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT). His dedication, work ethic, and sense of duty were hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
On January 9, 1959, Larry married the love of his life, Yvonne "Vonnie" German (née Burkes), of Fordland, Missouri. Together they built a loving family and shared many wonderful years. Later in life, Larry and Vonnie returned to Marquette, where they enjoyed spending their retirement years surrounded by the natural beauty they cherished.
Larry found great joy in the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking through the woods, fishing, and spending time in nature. He was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan college football. Above all else, Larry was devoted to his family and took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. His family was his greatest achievement and the source of his greatest joy.
Larry is survived by his loving children, Jerry Lee (Terri) German of Commerce Township, Michigan; Robert John (Carol) German of Jordan, Minnesota; and Maria Lynn German of Prior Lake, Minnesota. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew L. (Angela) German, Jessica L. (Carlo) Cicero, Alex H. (Kristen) German, Katie A. German, Angela Y. Noer, and Devon V. (Fiancé Kaite) Noer and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard German, and his sister-in-law, Sharon German, along with many friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yvonne German; his brothers, Onsen German, Leonard German, George German, Jerry German, and Bobby German; his sisters, Mary Bell and Violet German; and his great-grandson, Theo German.
At Larry's request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time. The family plans to celebrate his life at a later date and will honor his military service with a burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Larry will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his faithful service to his country, his love of the outdoors, and the kindness and strength that touched all who knew him.
