Katie Lee Nyberg
Katie Lee Nyberg, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, in Novi, Michigan. She was born on June 7, 1983, in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Katie lived a life defined by strength, perseverance, positivity, and an extraordinary ability to make the people around her feel loved and special. Her presence was truly magical. She had a way of bringing warmth, joy, and love into every room, and her beautiful spirit touched countless lives.
Katie was a devoted wife to her husband, Christopher, and a loving mother to her two sons, Cameron, 10, and Tyler, 8. Of all her accomplishments, nothing made her prouder than becoming a mother. Cameron and Tyler were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into being their mom. She was a proud baseball mom, always there to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments, big and small.
An accomplished athlete from a young age, Katie became a four-time national gold medal roller skating champion, an achievement that reflected the determination and perseverance she carried throughout her life. She was also a top student in Television Broadcasting, graduating at the top of her class from Specs Howard School of Media Arts. She was honored to serve as commencement speaker, a testament to her accomplishments and the inspiration she provided to others.
Katie earned her Bachelor's degree from Siena Heights University and a Certificate in Television from Specs Howard School of Media Arts. Her broadcasting career included serving as a traffic reporter for WXYZ Channel 7 in Detroit and WTBG Channel 13 in Toledo. She also worked at Galco Electronics and General Motors.
Outside of work and her many accomplishments, Katie found joy in the simple moments that made life meaningful. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, exercising, being on the lake, listening and dancing to music, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. She cherished time together, laughter, celebrations, and creating memories with the people she loved.
Katie's strength and wisdom were reflected in a note she left for her son:
“The most powerful skill is the ability to reset! If you’re having a bad day, let it go, adjust and find your next move. You can’t control everything, but you can control how long you stay stuck in it.”
Those words capture so much of who Katie was. She was strong-willed and persevering, always encouraging others to keep moving forward, find the joy, and make the next move.
Katie is survived by her husband, Christopher Nyberg; her beloved sons, Cameron and Tyler; her parents, Larry and Nancy Rydzewski; her sisters, Sara (Michael) Grice and Bethany (Christopher) Carline; her aunt and uncle, Robert Jones (Mario); and members of the Rydzewski family, David (Bronia), Darrell (Linda), Michael (Jean), and Ronald, along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Henry and Helen Rydzewski, and her maternal grandparents, Marshall and Hilda Jones.
Katie's life was far too short, but the love she gave was immeasurable. Her laughter, determination, kindness, energy, and unmistakable ability to make people feel special will live on through her children, her family, her friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. Her greatest legacy will always be the love she gave Cameron and Tyler and the beautiful example she set for them.
Visitation will be held from 3:00–8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, MI 48375.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, at The Beach Tiki Bar & Boil, 142 E. Walled Lake Drive, Walled Lake, MI 48390.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to education funds for Katie's children, Cameron and Tyler. There was nothing Katie loved more than being a mother, and a gift toward their future would be a meaningful way to honor the love, hope, and dreams she held for them.
