Obituary

Katherine S. Vitto

February 21, 1927 – November 5, 2026

Katherine S. Vitto, of Commerce Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2026, at the age of 99.

Katherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, generosity, faith, and an unwavering love for her family. She shared her love freely and often, making sure those closest to her never questioned how much they meant to her.

Katherine was married to the love of her life, Frank Vitto, for 66 years before his passing 12 years ago. Their marriage was one of deep love and devotion, serving as an example of the kind of partnership they hoped others would find. She missed Frank every day and carried their love with her throughout the rest of her life.

After graduating high school, Katherine began her working career at Ford Motor Company, where she spent several years in the payroll department. Her beautiful hands and careful work preparing timecards even earned her a photograph in the company's newsletter. She later joined Michigan Tile & Marble Company, where she dedicated 50 years of service as Office Manager and Chief Accountant. She became the face of the company and was beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her dedication, professionalism, and warm personality left a lasting impression before she eventually retired.

Outside of work, Katherine found great joy in her faith and creative pursuits. She was an avid reader, spending much of her time with her Bible and Book of Mormon. She also loved crocheting, a talent she put to particularly meaningful use later in life. During her late eighties and into her nineties, Katherine meticulously crocheted lace for sacrament cloths for her church. Her beautiful work became so well known that requests came from across the country. She went on to create more than 60 cloths for various branches, each made with remarkable precision, patience, and love.

Katherine was also a wonderful baker, especially known for her Italian biscotti, which she lovingly shared with family and friends. Whether through her baking, her handmade creations, or simply the time she spent with those she loved, she had a special way of making others feel cared for.

Above all else, Katherine's greatest accomplishment and greatest joy was her family. She was endlessly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, and she never missed an opportunity to tell them how much she loved them. She was grateful for the care and attention they gave her and never took those moments for granted. Even through life's challenges, she rarely complained and always seemed to greet each day with a warm smile. She had a favorite way of ending every phone call and visit, reminding those around her, "I love you a Ton!" Those words, spoken so often, will undoubtedly remain among the family's most treasured memories.

Katherine is survived by her loving children, Sandra (Tom) Scalise and Perry (Katherine Shaw) Vitto; her grandchildren, Sara (Brad) Klumb and Nicholas Vitto; and her great-grandson, Luca Jonathan Klumb.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Vitto; her parents, Joseph and Concetta Capone; and her siblings, Tony (Betty) Capone, Peter (Francis) Capone, John (Sandy) Capone, and Mary (Jim) Scalise.

Katherine's love, kindness, faith, and devotion to her family will live on through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a beautiful example of a life well lived, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial donations may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
