In Loving Memory of June Lark Owen
June Lark Owen, a resilient and talented woman, passed away on January 9, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born on April 4, 1929, in Detroit, MI, two minutes after her twin brother, Joseph Bott, during one of the most significant rainstorms in Detroit history. Overcoming life's challenges, June became a master of various artistic talents throughout her lifetime.
From a young age, June demonstrated her creativity, delving into drawing and painting, later transitioning to oil and watercolor until her late 80s when her eyesight began to limit her. She was not only a visual artist but also a poet, tap dancer, and actress, showcasing her diverse interests and talents. Her angelic voice could often be heard in the church choir, reflecting her love for music.
June embarked on her journey into adulthood by working at a bakery at the age of 14 and later as a switchboard operator for Chryslers. At 18, she married her first husband, Robert Skowronek, with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in 1971. Together, they raised four children, ran Bob's A&W in Detroit, and created cherished holiday memories decorating their home in Redford during Christmas, June's favorite time of the year.
After Robert's death, June dedicated four years as a Red Cross Volunteer in the ER at Botsford hospital. She then ventured into retail sales and pursued modeling and acting under the professional name June Lark. Her second marriage to George Sywassink in 1973 was a chapter filled with love until his passing in 1989. In the 1990s, she married Stanley Owen, who became her life partner until his death in 2016. Despite the losses she experienced, June remained resilient, hosting a community TV show, "Behind Closed Doors," and actively participating in community plays and poetry groups at their senior living community.
June was predeceased by her husbands, Robert J Skowronek, George J Sywassink, and Stanley Owen, as well as her son Gerard J Skowronek. She is survived by her children Thomas R. Skowronek, Nancy (Skowronek) (Moellering) Lark, and Robert A Skowronek, her sister Nancy (Bott) Levarsky, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six stepchildren from her last two marriages, and additional grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Holy Family Church, 24505 Meadowbrook Novi, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, with visitation from 10:30 am until the funeral Liturgy at 11:00 am officiated by Msgr.
