Obituary

Josephine Joann Bertoia, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.

Born on September 2, 1934, in Shinnston, West Virginia, Josephine was the beloved daughter of the late Rosa (Malley) and Carlo Piccolo. Throughout her life, she was known for her happy spirit, warm smile, and the love she shared with family and friends.

Josephine found joy in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed reading books, working puzzles, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her family and dedicating herself to being a loving homemaker. She was a proud member of the Italian American Club and treasured the friendships she made there.

Among her proudest moments were becoming a grandmother and later a great-grandmother. Nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering with her family and creating lasting memories together.

Josephine is survived by her son, Doug (Cathy) Bertoia; daughter-in-law, Cindy Bertoia; sister, Lillian Rampolo; sister-in-law, Stella Piccolo; grandchildren, Carlo (Brandi) Bertoia, Maria Bertoia, Marisa (Carl) Nord, Matthew Bertoia, and Michelle (Joe Barbo) Martin; and great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Luca, and Lola.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Bertoia; her son, Jeffrey Bertoia; her sisters, Kathleen (Russ) Columbo and Mary Lou (Sam) Lamerato; and her brother, Anthony Piccolo. Brother-in-law Roger Bertoia.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, Michigan 48375.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road, Brighton, Michigan, with visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Interment will follow at Saint Patrick Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Gleaners Food Bank.
