Joseph Jan Firek of Novi passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, on
March 12, 2024 at the age 82. Joe was born in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Irene Firek.
Beloved husband to Joyce for 61 years. Loving father to Laura (Ken) Grant, Kathryn (Fred)
Stanton, Marc (Ellen) Firek, and Jessica (Bill) Colaluca. Grandfather to Jacob, Emily, Sarah,
Duncan, Maisie, Jasper and Tess. Great Grandfather to Gus, Hendrix, Dempsey, Shiloh and
Landon. Joe's married life with Joyce was deeply loving and supportive. Their love of and pride
in their children brought them much happiness. They were infinitely grateful for the family that
grew around them over the years with the addition of spouses, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Joe was their patriarch, their protector, and their rock. He instilled in his children
an incredible foundation of family, education, and an appreciation for art and culture. He was
easy to be around and made all feel welcome, often with his quick, subtle sense of humor. He
was supportive and caring, at times through actions more than words. Joe was an enthusiastic
player of many sports including (but not limited to!) golf, softball, horseshoes, competitive board
games and social bridge. He enjoyed grilling, vacationing, and working on home improvement
projects. Joe and Joyce shared a passion for classical music, the arts, their home, family and
friends, and evenings of Jeopardy. Gathering of family and friends at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, 248-348-1800 on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Celebration of life service at the funeral home on Saturday, March 23, 2024 @ 11:00 AM.
