John Phillip Laybourn age 89, November 2, 1928 December 10, 2017
Beloved husband of Margaret for 43 years. Together raised five children Dennis (Marie) Diacono, Derrick (Roberta) Diacono, Dewain (Wendi) Diacono, Doreen (Joe) Attard and Diane (Robert) Rankin.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Antonia (Annie) Laybourn also of River Rouge. Together they had five children Doris Ann (Byron) Stuck, James (Diane), John (Lou Ann), Joe, Donald (Marcia) Proud grandfather of 19 and great grandfather of 7.
He was a dedicated family man having raised 10 successful children.
John was a graduate of River Rouge High School. John was a proud US Marine and served fearlessly as a combat sergeant in the Korean War. He was a survivor of the Chosen few. John was a decorated Marine and received two purple hearts. When John returned from Korea he went back to work for Great Lakes Steel and retired after 42 years.
Visitation at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home 41555 Grand River Novi Tuesday 2-8pm.
The celebration of John's life will be Wednesday 10:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Hughes officiating. Military honors will take place at the conclusion of the service.
Interment will be at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, Michigan.
