Brother of Jason Paul, Justin Paul (Melissa) and Step Brother of Jessica (Matt)
Uncle of Andrew, Meredith, Jack, Lillian, Brooklyn, and Avery as well as many other cousins who knew him as Uncle.
John's personality, positive energy and generosity were contagious. He was happiest sitting on the sideline of a soccer game, in the stands of a swim meet or just being with both of his kids. Taylor and Jake were the center of his world. Nothing was more important to him than spending time with them and their friends. John was also considered a second dad to many of their friends, as he paid for many meals, drove hundreds of miles and just enjoyed listening to their stories and joking around with them.
John was so proud of both of his kids. Taylor is currently finishing up her sophomore year at Adrian University, studying pre-med and playing soccer for their varsity team. Jake is a graduating, straight A student, at South Lyon High School and a state level swimmer, planning on majoring in engineering next year at Michigan Tech. They have worked extremely hard both in and out of the classroom, developing into amazing young adults.
John's love extended to those beyond just his kids. He loved to stay connected with all his relatives, often texting or calling with those he could not easily visit. John had the genuine ability with his infectious smile and laugh that no matter the time apart when he did visit, it made you feel like you were never apart. He enjoyed catching up with family in the Detroit area, and made sure to visit his family in Buffalo at least once a year. Spending an afternoon in somebody's garage, shooting the breeze, enjoying a few buffalo wings and some pizza was all he needed.
Ultimately, family was more than just blood to John. He was always looking out for anybody he could, helping in any way possible. In keeping with John's loving and generous spirit, on April 17th he donated to Gift of Life.
