Joanne Charlotte Svoboda, a beloved mother, devoted wife, passionate gardener, and history enthusiast, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born and raised in Detroit/(Hamtramck), Joanne was a Trained Aid at Grace Hospital where she spent several years caring for her patients. She also carried a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the stories of the past throughout her life. Her vibrant gardens flourished under her care, much like the family she nurtured with love and wisdom. She shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, Frank Svoboda, building a legacy of love and devotion.
Joanne was the proud and cherished mother of Marianne, Gerald, and Paul, who will forever treasure her warmth, compassion, and guidance. Her love for family was the cornerstone of her life, and she will be profoundly missed.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m.
Joanne will lie in state at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 721 Rickett Road, Brighton, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the funeral liturgy there will be a meal serviced in the church at (Father McCain Hall). Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Frank.
