Joan Mary Bednarski, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 24.
Joan was born on April 23, 1934 in Detroit, MI. After Joan graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1951, she obtained a diploma in Stenography from Detroit Business University before going to work at Detroit Edison and then Atomic Power Development Associates.
Joan met Frank Bednarski at a New Year's Eve party and they married on July 16, 1960 at St. Anthony's Shrine at Duns Scotus College in Southfield, MI. Joan and Frank went on to have two children, John Francis and Janet Marie. Joan was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, aunt and friend to many. She leaves behind a legacy of love and caring, and everyone who met her was touched by her kindness and generosity.
Joan was predeceased by her mother, Mary Brenner, her father, Peter Simonini, her stepfather, Joe Brenner and her husband, Francis William Bednarski. She is survived by her son, John (Maryanne), her daughter Janet Reilly and her grandchildren: Michael and Matthew Bednarski and Michelle and J.T. Reilly. She adored her children and grandchildren, who will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be at O'Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Instate Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 W. 10 Mile Road, Novi from 10:00 am until time of funeral liturgy 10:30 am. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, which was a disease that affected both Joan and Frank.
