Obituary

Jane E. Foust, passed suddenly on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in Farmington Hills at the age of 73. Beloved wife of Donald M. Foust for 54 years. Loving mother of Amanda (DuWayne) Voto, and Emily (Fiance Michael Scudillo) Foust. Dear sister of Jon (Donna) Hermansen, and Katherine Diehl. Mrs. Foust is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth, her parents: Donald and Dorothy Hermansen, and brother Charles Hermansen.

As Jane Elizabeth Foust was welcomed into Heaven, she left an immense void in the lives of her loved ones who survive her in her husband, Donald, and daughters, Emily and Amanda. Jane was a passionate and loving woman with a determination and grit which resulted in a self-educated, professional career in healthcare. Jane tirelessly worked for the well-bring of others, often acting as an advocate seeking necessary care to address patient needs. She was undaunted by challenge and was always willing and eager to help individuals with insurance issues or other dire circumstances. Her own health issues cut her career short leaving her to focus on the main love of her life, her husband and family.

Her devotion was most evident in her 54-year marriage to her husband Donald. Together they faced and overcame many challenges, including the death of their daughter Mary Beth at the age of 2. Despite this heartache, their love and commitment to one another became a testimony to God's grace as they exemplified the gift of the vocation of marriage, witnessing to their other daughters and countless other couples. Together, Jane and Donald shared their wisdom in Marriage Encounter retreats and leading couples in preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage for 42 years.

This gift of love was also given to her daughters, Emily, Amanda and Mary Beth. Jane doted on her girls always treasuring them with the fullness of love she had to give. Her smile was infectious and she knew how to light up a situation and show her girls how to do the same. She taught them how to be strong, resilient, steadfast and faithful even in the midst of suffering.

Jane suffered from chronic illness and had many health complications which limited her daily life and subsequently deteriorated her eyesight bringing Sophie, her Leader-Dog for the Blind, into the family. Jane knew the redemptive value in suffering and so made the best of her situation, leaning into her faith, and offering her suffering for the poor souls in purgatory, seeking God's mercy and grace for those awaiting eternal life.

Jane's faith became an anchor in her life and she was the member of multiple parishes over the years, most recently calling Church of the Holy Family in Novi her spiritual home. Prior to her vision failing, she was a Eucharistic minister and a lector serving in any capacity she could. Jane thrived in ministry and seeking to bring others closer to Christ by leading Bible studies out of her home and co-chairing Truth Seekers which helped form adults along the journey of faith.

Jane is irreplaceable and unrepeatable and we will be lost without her. Even in our sorrow, we rejoice in the knowledge that she has found freedom from her earthly body and is fully restored in health and sight as she gazes on the beatific vision with our Heavenly Father. May God be praised for the gift of Jane Elizabeth Foust.
