Obituary

James Carl Riley passed away at his home in Livonia, Michigan, with his wife by his side, on February 21, 2024. He was born on February 10, 1956, in Dover, Ohio, to Dolores J. (nee. Santore) and James V. Riley.

James was a man of many passions, with a special skill and deep love for landscaping. His green thumb and dedication to his craft left a lasting impact on the spaces he touched. During his time in Hospice care, he boasted that he was going to be God's gardener in Heaven. James found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in the company of his family. He also shared a passion for watching wrestling with his brother and sister, and had a love for music, with a particular fondness for Rock n' Roll, guitar music, and Christian music. His favorite bands include Led Zeppelin, Queen, Madonna, Peter Frampton, and Kiss.

James was not only a family man but also a man of faith. He was a dedicated believer in Christ and an active member of a men's Bible study group and Northridge Church, where he found spiritual nourishment and camaraderie.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Cynthia Riley. He was a proud father to three children: Michael (Stephanie) Riley, Monica (John) Maxwell, and Victoria (Brady) Wenson. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Kingston Maxwell, Bentley Wenson, Theodore Riley, Murphy Maxwell, Reed Wenson, Montgomery Maxwell, and Shelby Wenson. James is survived by his siblings, Jane E. Harmon and James (Tina) Fisher, as well as his niece, Carla (Jay) Lukenbill, and his great-niece, Allison Farenger. He is predeceased by his brother, John Daniel Riley, and his parents, James and Dolores.

James Carl Riley will be remembered for his warm heart, unwavering faith, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
