Obituary

James "Jim" Kapron passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elaine; his sisters, Nancy (Jim) Cairns and Janet (Vince) Furchi; his sister-in-law, Joyce Ambrose; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew and great-great-niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jean Kapron.

Jim graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1970, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later became a Certified Professional Engineer through the State of Michigan. Throughout his distinguished career, Jim applied his knowledge and creativity in a variety of engineering roles. He worked as a mechanical engineer at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Wastewater Treatment Plant before continuing his career with Graco Inc. and Dürr U.S.A., where he designed paint systems for the automotive industry. His innovative thinking and dedication to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his profession.

Outside of work, Jim found joy in lifelong learning and creativity. He loved reading, listening to music and podcasts, watching informational and entertaining YouTube videos, and spending time creating woodworking projects. He also had a passion for writing Haiku poems, finding beauty and meaning in life's simple moments.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as a quiet and thoughtful man who was an exceptional listener. He possessed a gentle spirit and was known for being innovative, kind, loving, and caring. His calm presence, wisdom, and genuine compassion touched the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, Michigan 48375.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to the charity of one's choice.
