Howard Edward Boehmer, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He was born on August 10, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan.
Howard lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service. In his youth, he was a talented baseball pitcher who tried out for the minor leagues before a shoulder injury altered his path. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954, earned his BBA from Wayne State University, and built a successful career as a Credit Manager at Meier Metal in Hazel Park until his retirement. Howard then spent 14 years working part-time at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, where his "gift of gab" allowed him to comfort families and share stories—while funding his favorite pastime, golf.
Family was the center of Howard’s world. He was married for 52 years to the love of his life, Barbara, and took immense pride in his children and watching his granddaughter graduate from college. A passionate sports fan, Howard loved golfing, cheering on the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, U of M, MSU, and traveling with family.
Perhaps no family tradition brought Howard more joy than the annual New Year's Eve euchre tournament. A fierce competitor with a playful spirit, he looked forward to the event every year and took tremendous pride in being crowned the tournament champion. Winning earned him bragging rights that he happily carried well into the new year, and the laughter, friendly rivalry, and treasured memories made around the card table were among his favorite moments.
Howard was truly the life of the party—loving, feisty, charming, and funny. He never met a stranger, loved making people laugh, and was always the first to arrive at any gathering.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Heidi Formella; granddaughter, Lauren Formella; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Boehmer; sisters, June Butler and Sandra Nance; brother-in-law, Robert Towns; sister-in-law, Virginia (John) Jozwiak; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Boehmer; his sons, Jeffrey and David Boehmer; and his parents, Howard and Janet Boehmer.
Visitation will be held September 10, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Howard's life at 2pm at the funeral home. A graveside burial at approximately 3pm with Military honors will follow at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
