Obituary

Herbert Lane Lewis, a beloved member of the Novi community, passed away on February 15, 2024. He was born in Beaverdam, Ohio, on December 24, 1930. Herb was raised in Lima, Ohio by Nellie and Harry Lewis.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Nellie Lewis and his wife of 61 years, Arlayne Madsen Lewis. He is survived by his three daughters Pam, Sue, and Krista, as well as his five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Rachel, Selena, Gavin, and Noah. Herb is also survived by his four great-grandchildren Stevie, Dixon, Beau, and Myra. Additionally, he leaves behind his partner of six years, Vicki.

Herb dedicated thirty-four years of his life to the Detroit Public Schools, where he served as a teacher, assistant principal, and retired as a principal from Jones Elementary. His commitment to education touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on both students and colleagues.

Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Herb had a zest for life that was evident in his love for travel, theater, and spending quality time with family and friends. His warm and welcoming spirit created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Herb's life will take place at 2:30pm on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, located at 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, MI 48375. Herbert's final resting place will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Donations in memory of Herb can be made to the Fox Run Scholarship

Herb Lewis will be dearly missed, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
