Obituary

Helen E. Burger, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on June 30, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Helen was the daughter of the late Tom Perros and Viola Mae (Reiter).

Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was the loving mother of Charles E. (Sheirilyn) Burger, Steven A. (April) Burger, and Andrew J. (Julie) Burger. Additionally, she embraced her role as step-mother to Thomas (Lesa), Donald (Antonia), Ronald, and John (Sara) Burger. Her grandchildren, Kaela, Joseph, Hayley, Courtney, Brittney, Bella, Lily, and Vivian, were the joy of her life, and she cherished every moment with them. Helen is also survived by several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her youth, Helen attended Cooley High School and pursued her passion for nursing by attending Nursing School. She dedicated herself to a career in healthcare, working diligently at Grace Hospital in Detroit and later at DMC until the age of 71. Helen's compassion and dedication to caring for others left a lasting impact on those she served.

Beyond her professional life, Helen had many interests and hobbies. She had a profound love for horses and enjoyed spending time horseback riding. Bingo nights and bowling outings brought her immense joy, and she found comfort in watching westerns on television. Helen's compassion extended to animals, and she was survived by her loyal K-9 companion, Charlie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the ASPCA, causes that were close to Helen's heart.
