Gilbert Charles Dormandy passed away on March 20, 2024, at the age of 101. He was born in Troy, New York, on December 12, 1922, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Dormandy. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Doris Osborn Dormandy. He was also predeceased by his siblings; Marcia Brown, Hope Mealy-Knight, Roger Dormandy, and David Dormandy. Gilbert is survived by his daughters Carol (John) Jackson, Sharon (Joe) Vitella, and Kim Dormandy, his nine grandchildren and his 13 great grandchildren.
He proudly served in the United States Navy on the destroyer USS Sproston during World War II in the American Area Asiatic Pacific as a Sonarman First Class. He began his service in November 1942, and was honorably discharged in February 1946.
Gil loved woodworking and spent much of his retirement building furniture for family and friends. He enjoyed reading, especially World War II historical fiction novels.
Following cremation, Gilbert's cremains have returned to Troy, New York, where they are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in the Dormandy plot beside his wife, Doris.
