Geraldine "Gerri" Flowers, age 94, of Novi, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024
Gerri was born to Godfrey and Eva Halleen in Detroit on July 2, 1929. She attended Mackenzie High School and Valparaiso University, where she majored in Physical Education and Sociology. Gerri was employed as a social group worker at Dodge Community House in Detroit, a facility connected with the Presbyterian Church. It was there she met Donald "Don" C. Flowers, who was interning at the time. They married in 1954 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before Don's passing in 2004. In 2006, following her move to Fox Run, Gerri met Victor (Vic) Mesenbring. They married on August 8, 2009, and enjoyed 13 years of marriage until his passing in 2022.
Gerri had a passion for tennis, golf, and birding, scoring her first and only Hole-in-One at the age of 66. She and Don traveled extensively, exploring six continents together. Gerri dedicated much of her time to volunteering, including thirty years at Ascension Providence Hospital and serving as a Hospice Volunteer at Arbor Hospice.
Preceding Gerri in death were her parents, her sister Lucille Kers, her brother-in-law Raymond Kers, and her daughter Betsy Duede.
Gerri is survived by her children Bruce (Cathy) Flowers of Elmhurst, IL, Michael (Shawn) Ward of San Clemente, CA, Bonny (Joe) Barrett of Coloma, MI, and son-in-law Steve Duede of Traverse City, MI; her brother Russell (Janet) Halleen; her grandchildren Thomas Flowers (Brandon Cloyd), Peter (Alexa) Flowers, Hannah (Ryan) Krombeen, Chelsea (Joe) Brenzel, Hayley Ward, and Carson Ward; her great-grandchildren Madelyn, Tyler, Brynn, Charlotte, and Grace. She is also survived by her stepchildren David Mesenbring, Jim Mesenbring, Tom (Lola) Mesenbring, Kathy Breen, and Steve (Laurie) Mesenbring.
A memorial service will be held at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home on Saturday, July 20, 2024 beginning at 11am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, and will continue until the beginning of the service.
