Gerald Thomas Shaughnessy

April 29, 1934 – February 19, 2021. 86 years old. Beloved husband of Mary Ellen (O'Connor). Loving father of Kate Shaughnessy, Meg (Mike) Modes, Eileen (Jeff) Gilbert and Jean (Steve) Shaughnessy Smith. Proud grandfather of Michael, Grace, Jane, Molly, Claire, Maggie, Erin and Bridget. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many, many wonderful friends.

Jerry was born to Alfred and Jean Shaughnessy in Detroit, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his siblings James (Nancy) Shaughnessy, Marion (Stuart D.) Hubbell, Patricia (Paul) Straub, Sr. Eileen Shaughnessy, IHM and Suzanne Shaughnessy.

His early years were spent in northwest Detroit with his lifelong best friends Tom and Jim Tighe. After graduating from Catholic Central, Jerry started his 35-year career with Detroit Diesel while attending the University of Detroit pursuing his Bachelor and Masters degrees. Jerry married the love of his life in 1960 and they settled in Livonia, Michigan where they created a loving home for over 40 years. After retiring from Detroit Diesel, Jerry embarked on his second career managing the St. Gabriel and St. Valentine Credit Unions. Upon retiring a second time, Jerry took on tax preparation working with AARP to assist seniors. In retirement Jerry and Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling and the community at Fox Run.

Jerry was a lover of a great tale, good bourbon, Tiger's baseball and his Irish heritage. Most important to him were his family and friends and supporting them with sound advice, counsel and love.

Instate at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170, on Monday, February 22 at 11:30 am until time of funeral liturgy at 12:00 pm.
